Ambujwadi, nestled in the Malvani region of Malad West, is home to thousands of hardworking families — daily wage labourers, domestic workers, street vendors, and single mothers.
In these densely populated lanes, inflation and medical emergencies frequently push families over the edge. When survival becomes the question, the first expense to be cut is almost always a child's school fee. Children as young as 7 to 10 years old stop going to school and begin working to supplement meager household incomes.
Shiksha Udaan Trust was established to draw a firm line in the sand: No child in our neighborhood should ever have to trade their notebook for manual labour. We walk the alleys, find out-of-school children, pay their school fees directly, equip them with uniforms and books, and provide academic support so they stay in school.
